Dreadnought Plasma Cannon Conversion

So I have an Assault on Black Reach dreadnought, but I've always used the multi-melta arm as a plasma cannon stand in. Since I got the dark vengeance set, I realized that I have one more plasma cannon than I need, so I figured it was time to make a real plasma cannon. There is a great tutorial that gave me the idea to do this over on Da Rollin Waaagh!. I'll give a quick rundown of what I did, but if you want a more in depth tutorial, head over to his post. More below...
I started out with my old dreadnought multi-melta, and a devastator plasma cannon. I probably should have stripped the paint from the pieces first, but I was lazy so I didn't.
I cut the tubes and gun barrel from the multi-melta with a razor saw, and also cut the arm from the plasma cannon.
I carved the two pieces to fit each other as best as I could using the razor saw and a hobby knife.
Once the fit was acceptable, I glued the pieces together, and used some greenstuff to fill the gaps. I'm still new at the greenstuff, so it's not great, but any noticeable imperfections will be shaved down once the greenstuff dries.
And that's it! A very fast and easy conversion. Much better than spending about $15 for the Forge World version, and much more useful than the multi-melta as well!
Hope this was useful for someone out there. Leave me a comment with any questions or criticisms (of the constructive variety preferably). Or, just say why the plasma cannon is so much better than the multi-melta so I can be even happier about making the change. Thanks for reading, and happy new year!

  1. That's really nice. When i get fed up with walking my dread into dangerous areas to land a decent shot with the multi melta i may do the same. Not all green marines are salamanders - some of us are bathrobe wearin' dark angels!

    1. Especially in 6th, were dreads aren't as good in close range. Before it wasn't that big of a deal to walk right up and pop a tank before assaulting, but now dreads are much more useful as mobile guns.
