Hey everyone! So I have seen a lot of discussions (debates) about what the actual sizes of things in the Warhammer 40k universe. Even when people agreed on the sizes, It was always expressed as the height in feet, meters, km, etc. That is great, but I want to be able to get the sense of scale as it is described in the novels (the way a normal human feels tiny next to a space marine). I thought the best way to do this (that was within my skill set) would be to make up a bunch of silhouettes of vehicles, weapons, and armour and place them next to each other.<br />
Eventually I want to make an animation where it starts zoomed in on a
human, and slowly zooms out all the way to an imperial battlecruiser!
I'm also planning to do some for xenos races as well. <br />
The way I have been determining the scale was by following the diagram in the back of the Imperial Armour books. I'll have to use some other methods of finding the size of the things that aren't in there (xenos stuff) but that shouldn't be too hard if I use the models as a guide, or any other references that I can find. Since the models aren't to scale, I only use them as a starting point.<br />
So what do you think? The Land Raider and Rhino actually look like they would be able to transport the amount of troops that the rules say, boltguns are huge, and a powerfist is the size of a human torso! This really helps me to get an idea of just how big things are in 40k. Make sure to view the photo full size, and let me know what you think, or anything specific you'd like to see sized up against everything. Thanks for reading!<br />

Hi everyone! I just wanted to show you a little update on the Deathwing. The picture above is my take on Belial. Like many of you, I really wan't a fan of the finecast Belial, and the deathwing box has so many great bits that It wasn't a problem at all to make my own. The model is just held together with stickey tack right now, and I had to photoshop the thunderhammer on there too. I didn't like the pose of the sergeant that came standard. It was just too stiff and static, so I swapped his legs with one of the others (it was much harder than you might think) to give a bit more movement to the model. Read on for more!<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This is going to be my champion in the command squad. I stole this idea from <a href="http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/500660.page">Kriswall</a> on Dakka Dakka. The pose of the seargeant really works well with the halberd. I'm still debating whether I should leave the halberd as is, or if I should convert it like <a href="http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/530565.page">this</a>, or if I should just leave it. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbJTIARs8bdV2A0webTNYb3wZX7-ZBg5g0O_B5IlfQLKrJWeBoV4ZXcjyl-ViGmTq3FuLlaKFjssOCCu_KehuKCTWOTqyeA8MRFzdChn6guQasKM4X_7bWewdvBe0oX4Wvoo3UoYVhig-_/s1600/cpykeSarge1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbJTIARs8bdV2A0webTNYb3wZX7-ZBg5g0O_B5IlfQLKrJWeBoV4ZXcjyl-ViGmTq3FuLlaKFjssOCCu_KehuKCTWOTqyeA8MRFzdChn6guQasKM4X_7bWewdvBe0oX4Wvoo3UoYVhig-_/s320/cpykeSarge1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Here is an Idea for one of the sergeants. I used a bit from the Grey Knight terminators that is holding the bloodletter head. I am making my army look like they are in constant battle against chaos, so I really liked the idea of this seargeant being a master swordsman who just killed a daemon champion. If you look closedly, you can see that his right eye lens has been damaged with a slash going down it (it will be more obvious after it's painted). I'm going to be putting little bits of battle damage like this here and there, but the army will be mostly pretty clean.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLUBMSoHK2vC1NN6hY4CZtulVvYmzcYXeDXPrRsFIRZNp74wXEGLwQYhvOuHiMM8GL5c5y8dpdj_2WZWOjxvtFoiQQKsItlWZgGno7Ty4GhcmOnS0IrsLWv5rf4-jVaRFB_gYPrOog66U2/s1600/cpykeSarge2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLUBMSoHK2vC1NN6hY4CZtulVvYmzcYXeDXPrRsFIRZNp74wXEGLwQYhvOuHiMM8GL5c5y8dpdj_2WZWOjxvtFoiQQKsItlWZgGno7Ty4GhcmOnS0IrsLWv5rf4-jVaRFB_gYPrOog66U2/s320/cpykeSarge2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
This is one of the first major conversions that I have done. I made some robes out of greenstuff, but I removed the robe between his legs because, being one of my first greenstuff projects, it was pretty rough. I also used greenstuff to increase the length of his torso just enough to make him a bit taller than other terminators, and so his head didn't looks so big. I used the method that Ron at <a href="http://fromthewarp.blogspot.com/2012/09/my-truescale-model-vs-standard.html">Fron the Warp</a> shows in his truescale terminator tutorial. So this guy is mostly done, but I will be redoing the robe. The iron halo is from the metal terminator chaplain. I baked it in the oven at 150F (I think) for about an hour to soften it up, and used the handle of my hobby knife to bend it out so it would fit. I think that I will actually cut the plastic below it so I can move it down a bit.<br />
<br />
Well that is it for today. I have a bunch more going on with the Deathwing still, so be looking out for more updates! <br />

Hello again everyone. I just wanted to show a few of the photos that have inspired the Space Wolf army that I'm currently working on, and show where I am currently on the project. First off, I have to make a confession. I used to hate the wolves. They didn't do anything wrong or anything, but I couldn't stand the baby blue color that GW paints them. I mean, they would look more at home in a brand new baby's nursery than in the grim dark future of Warhammer. But alas, I have been converted. When 6th edition was fresh off the press, I picked up the big rulebook and after excitedly pouring over the new rules, I took a look at all the great artwork and models at which point I saw these beauties:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5UlZhDswPyayt-nEabDKTduaaRJBFzn22wPReUW0qVA7VCLSO6HgGyb-cyzcTXp28pIqZuZAzfS3cwwS5X2bTNkCAec3vpL4CqkwfgJjW6Be3tI81_AX_Q99u7oYA5UZMPeuXQV3vq1MA/s1600/JamesKarch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="272" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5UlZhDswPyayt-nEabDKTduaaRJBFzn22wPReUW0qVA7VCLSO6HgGyb-cyzcTXp28pIqZuZAzfS3cwwS5X2bTNkCAec3vpL4CqkwfgJjW6Be3tI81_AX_Q99u7oYA5UZMPeuXQV3vq1MA/s320/JamesKarch.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I really liked the dark grey armour, and the multitude of conversions all packed into a nice little viking army. After that I took a look at their rules and found that they really enforced the raw power that I saw in the models. So needless to say, the vikings in space had won me over. And next thing I know, my brother got me a box of grey hunters and thunderwolf cavalry for Christmas! So now I had the problem of figuring out what my army was going to look like.<br />
Although the space wolves in the rulebook were the first to catch my attention, I wasn't fully in love with everything about it. I saw the picture of the space wolves contemptor and really liked the color scheme.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtm5WUkRc01Alq_uMescMB95gaPE3Ukf5pJk0eY34lq3rjFRe9TgHXrLOr6TxJSPD6v769R_TIu_dNfEg2MomWgwP1tP3RuVqM6cUw9bLPQH-v-A1aTGlbtarR3-QV1tgt7FEh7GncelfT/s1600/SpaceWolvesContemptor.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="178" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtm5WUkRc01Alq_uMescMB95gaPE3Ukf5pJk0eY34lq3rjFRe9TgHXrLOr6TxJSPD6v769R_TIu_dNfEg2MomWgwP1tP3RuVqM6cUw9bLPQH-v-A1aTGlbtarR3-QV1tgt7FEh7GncelfT/s320/SpaceWolvesContemptor.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
So that was it. Dark grey with black shoulderpads and a touch of red every once in a while. I'm going to be avoiding the yellow, but the long fangs will probably have some white here and there.<br />
It wasn't long before I found the awesome blog <a href="http://pingos-projects.blogspot.com/">Poingo's Projects</a> which has some amazing space wolves:<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">HUGE chainsword! Awesome.</td></tr>

His color scheme is pretty close to what I'm looking for, but what really caught my eye was all of the incredible conversions. I knew that I wanted each and every one of my space wolves to be converted at least in some way. There will be no assembling straight out of the box for this army. And it is really the perfect army to do this with because they come with so many extra bits, and the models are just demanding to have extra character built in. <br />
So what exactly am I planning for my army? Well as I said before, the armour is going to be dark grey with dark red here and there.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpuySjKAE9jkfvlAuSBCAykmg8k8g66vL0WjEbx6ne9MplRESTbdBnRhK8QFjcN_s-IFP5sZuJ8syugTvx7CyBwsi2vX7L1nnZFia0ySybewPvm8nuDy9GmheM1jS0K0GLdR7zlAYHCe1v/s1600/Chipped+Armour.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="280" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpuySjKAE9jkfvlAuSBCAykmg8k8g66vL0WjEbx6ne9MplRESTbdBnRhK8QFjcN_s-IFP5sZuJ8syugTvx7CyBwsi2vX7L1nnZFia0ySybewPvm8nuDy9GmheM1jS0K0GLdR7zlAYHCe1v/s320/Chipped+Armour.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
My current army is very clean, so I wanted to mix things up and make these guys look like they have been out in it for a long time. Their armour is going to be extremely worn and battle damaged like this land raider by <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/64078429@N06/6896798930/in/set-72157629373753726">John Beech</a>. <br />

The details are going to be in a corroded bronze similar to the model above by <a href="http://drownedinplastic.blogspot.com/2012/11/space-wolf-step-by-step-part-4-bronze.html">Brandon Griffith</a>. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_jQXZhek0D-Iria0Q4bYBSYz3pSdhNZKJGD_zxoJkm5tT_TUoLl988WbBnA8141rRURnp4G2zMD2TM5fvE4MFT61N1q8buW1QAaIILQVfovb9HC0ruT_2Nm6NaVZziXu3CRbUQx8S6u_C/s1600/gallery_48798_4449_24059.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="158" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_jQXZhek0D-Iria0Q4bYBSYz3pSdhNZKJGD_zxoJkm5tT_TUoLl988WbBnA8141rRURnp4G2zMD2TM5fvE4MFT61N1q8buW1QAaIILQVfovb9HC0ruT_2Nm6NaVZziXu3CRbUQx8S6u_C/s320/gallery_48798_4449_24059.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I'll be adding a bunch of details in greenstuff like these wolftooth decorations by <a href="http://trueminiwargamer.blogspot.com/2011/02/talent-not-required-motw-wtn.html">Night Runner</a>. I'm also thinking of adding some chainmail as well because that would look really cool and fit well with the viking theme.<br />
And to further the image of brutal warriors, there will be blood on all their weapons using Tamiya clear red as in this tutorial by <a href="http://www.thedarkcity.net/t2933-blood-n-gore-lonewolf-style">Lonewolf</a>. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgomtYvPci_x-c9sDcSwVFy44GxFIIycuPRSFqNjkamZTieh668hFP8SkBONGo6Cx6W527EXSp9gfPkrNU668M3r_xqXLCifAyg7h3lPfR9XmowD6t_4dyQP8L9-ahJrRbTCqUd1y9iTwIy/s1600/7a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="229" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgomtYvPci_x-c9sDcSwVFy44GxFIIycuPRSFqNjkamZTieh668hFP8SkBONGo6Cx6W527EXSp9gfPkrNU668M3r_xqXLCifAyg7h3lPfR9XmowD6t_4dyQP8L9-ahJrRbTCqUd1y9iTwIy/s320/7a.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
For the bases, I am definitely wanting to add some snow, and the method that I am liking the best is the one that Poingo uses in his <a href="http://pingos-projects.blogspot.com/2012/12/let-it-snow-snow-basing-tutorial.html">tutorial</a> using baking soda. But you need something to put the snow onto, and for that I am using pine bark as rocks which I learned from <a href="http://www.3t-studios.com/archives/2642">3T Studios</a> who have some incredible tutorials (don't be put off by the first picture, it's an example of what not to do). I will also be using some sculpey like I did with my <a href="http://40kangelsofdeath.blogspot.com/2012/11/showcase-chaos-cultist-champion.html">Cultist Champion</a> so I can add some runestones.<br />
So now, onto my stuff! I got myself some spears and axes from the chaos marauder horsemen kit which I am using to give them some close combat weapons other than chainswords.You can see one of the axes that this guy is carrying. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgB6QY1RTn9V84E4hYzTc1mG1MwWOeqXIiggwz__5PGZuKU_6zEJIzvCw1faexuJS1ZcaEXtWOK-gkJiH1dk9GSr8G7Cb3Fgj4esoZipdHpWIcBC-Y0bNQK6BYE1c8K3rmrHwryDin_f8o8/s1600/cpykeWG01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgB6QY1RTn9V84E4hYzTc1mG1MwWOeqXIiggwz__5PGZuKU_6zEJIzvCw1faexuJS1ZcaEXtWOK-gkJiH1dk9GSr8G7Cb3Fgj4esoZipdHpWIcBC-Y0bNQK6BYE1c8K3rmrHwryDin_f8o8/s320/cpykeWG01.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I put this picture in black and white so the bark on the base actually looks like rock. I love how all Grey Hunters have a close combat weapon, bolt pistol, and bolter. Not only for the extra attack, but also because it is much more interesting to make them models when the whole squad is holding different weapons. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcRgLqbGCJICGFLL__N-0Q82kRFbbDA9xPwPt9vBm-lWNtnAffZ7ErhFmPCKgGmj5DLY4ZVybG7ntnOt7O_bri8aGG0YylHcHhOlOL2Tr-VU_d5TlujOIVmLG2YO83Kcq82h-OSMfCRK98/s1600/cpykeWG02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcRgLqbGCJICGFLL__N-0Q82kRFbbDA9xPwPt9vBm-lWNtnAffZ7ErhFmPCKgGmj5DLY4ZVybG7ntnOt7O_bri8aGG0YylHcHhOlOL2Tr-VU_d5TlujOIVmLG2YO83Kcq82h-OSMfCRK98/s320/cpykeWG02.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I also made this thunderhammer for the thunderwolf cavalry. The head of the hammer is made from super sculpey which I carved into a boxish shape. It's going to be painted up to look like the space wolf carved it himself out of stone. I'll probably carve some runes into it as well.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOSvGYsa5g9XEwcD-csjTF0RhxiCE4a0uqTVhrKJDrkqqXOvOt0-VkxzIaj8xDI8ByHwzZRqcMC9FNHBonbM84OuoT5HQMfaKlyeJiGx9ANFRqiLTWu6yIoj39EXS-taAJtShC41ilcpeq/s1600/IMG_6435.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOSvGYsa5g9XEwcD-csjTF0RhxiCE4a0uqTVhrKJDrkqqXOvOt0-VkxzIaj8xDI8ByHwzZRqcMC9FNHBonbM84OuoT5HQMfaKlyeJiGx9ANFRqiLTWu6yIoj39EXS-taAJtShC41ilcpeq/s320/IMG_6435.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
One of the other thunderwolves is going to be throwing a spear with a few more strapped to his back. It seems like a spear would be a better weapon than a chainsword when you're sitting on the back of a 6' tall wolf.<br />
So that is the current direction of my space wolf army. Now that school is just about out I'll hopefully have some models converted and ready to paint soon. Thanks for reading!<br />

Hi everyone, I just wanted to show you all some things that I made the other day. I was over on <a href="http://www.dakkadakka.com/">Dakka Dakka</a> the other day looking at all their little orkmoticons and all their other smilies. I noticed that there were no terminator icons, so I thought I'd see if I could whip one up. Well as you might expect it wasn't as easy as it looks. I made one that was 40x40 pixels (above) which wasn't too bad, but when I tried to make the 16x16 pixel ones that Dakka uses i ran into some problems. Mainly that it is really hard to take 256 little squares and make them into something that looks recognizable as a terminator helmet. But eventually I did it! And here it is:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWqDohjn3nNhgSpQ_d8N086aeFw3eY0PadOZ_0-9RwusAgLNahnFzrUjwT83TaW7ZrRCe5aD5gw1aOZcVu6bNSKbvgbhfUAkEPlZgGOwxLyZVD5Z6fMdnyTA-JU6dw6C6hdBJIdDLcCsf8/s1600/terminator-helmet16x16.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWqDohjn3nNhgSpQ_d8N086aeFw3eY0PadOZ_0-9RwusAgLNahnFzrUjwT83TaW7ZrRCe5aD5gw1aOZcVu6bNSKbvgbhfUAkEPlZgGOwxLyZVD5Z6fMdnyTA-JU6dw6C6hdBJIdDLcCsf8/s1600/terminator-helmet16x16.gif" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
You may have noticed that I added it as the blog's favicon (I just learned that is what the little icon on website tabs is called) which is pretty nifty. I also attempted the deathwing symbol and got this: <br />

So what do you think? Kinda look like a terminator? I actually had a lot of fun trying to figure out how to make these, so i think I'll keep going. I think I'll try to make a Rhino next, and then maybe a Land Raider, and who knows what else! Thanks for reading!<br />

<span style="font-family: inherit;"> So I'm not sure about all of you, but the power lance seems like one of
the biggest wastes of 15 points. I even forget that it exists sometimes
because the sword, axe, and mace are all that I use or hear about
online. I really like the idea of a power spear for my Space Wolves.
Imagine a pack of Thunderwolf cavalry charging with a power spear! That
would be pretty awesome. But as it is, i would probably go with the
chainsword instead. So I thought we should talk about why it is rarely
(if ever) used on the tabletop and how it can be improved to bring it up
to par with the other power weapons.
Read on for the revised rules:</span><br />
<a name='more'></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDCs0eUE5-g6sed4PRXg0Yhaxz0H4O8zS5NKXNhzbhpw6-z5oy0LbMOD0m3XyQ9QKHccaWo2-aEr2L9AagvLLP3ANMhwTK0oER5ObILqhrpN5H13G9bFaY8h-e-Gopg1iQff2inLM9eXDJ/s1600/Capture.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="287" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDCs0eUE5-g6sed4PRXg0Yhaxz0H4O8zS5NKXNhzbhpw6-z5oy0LbMOD0m3XyQ9QKHccaWo2-aEr2L9AagvLLP3ANMhwTK0oER5ObILqhrpN5H13G9bFaY8h-e-Gopg1iQff2inLM9eXDJ/s320/Capture.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

</span><br /><span style="font-family: inherit;"> -Every other turn: S:user, <span class="glossaryitem">AP</span>4
</span><br /><span style="font-family: inherit;"></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /> This really doesn't make sense to me. The biggest thing about
spears isn't that they make you hit harder (especially not as hard as an
axe). Their main advantage is that you can keep your enemies further
away from you and strike first. With that in mind, here is a potential
profile for the revised power lance:
</span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: inherit;"><b>Revised Power Lance:</b>
<br /> -On the assault: I+2, <span class="glossaryitem">AP</span>3
<br /> -Every other turn: I:user, <span class="glossaryitem">AP</span>4
</span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /> Or:
</span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: inherit;"><b>Revised Power Lance2:</b>
<br /> -On the assault: +1 to S and I, <span class="glossaryitem">AP</span>3
<br /> -Every other turn: S and I:user, <span class="glossaryitem">AP</span>4
</span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /> So what do you guys think. Do these new rules seem like an
improvement? Are they too good? Are the original power spears actually
really useful and I just don't know how to use them? </span><br />

In honor of (almost) reaching 10,000 views (Thanks everyone!) I am putting up an army list that I'm pretty excited about! So first of all, I'd like to let you all know that the top three things about 40k that have fascinated me since the start are terminators, jump packs, and dreadnoughts, and the two armies that I have loved since the start are the Blood Angels, and the Dark Angels (and I've recently found that I also love the Space Wolves). I've never used more than 5 terminators in an army, but between the Assault on Black Reach and Dark Vengeance starter boxes and the Assault Terminators that my wife and brother got me for my birthday last year I found that I had the makings of a nice Deathwing just in time for the new Dark Angels codex to come out. And when I saw the Deathwing Knighs models I knew that I would have to get myself one of those eventually. Well folks, eventually has arived! With the Deathwing Knights in the mail, I present to you my first draft of a deathwing list. Enjoy!<br /><a name='more'></a><ul>
<li>HQ: </li>
<ul>
<li>Belial: (Sword and Storm Bolter or TH/SS)</li>
<li>Librarian: Terminator, Mastery 2, Displacer Field</li>
<li>5x Deathwing Command: 4TH/SS, Standard of Fortitude, Champion, Cyclone Missile</li>
</ul>
<li>Troops:</li>
<ul>
<li>5x Deathwing: TH/SS Sergeant, Chainfist, Assault Cannon</li>
<li>5x Deathwing: TH/SS Sergeant, Chainfist, Plasma Cannon</li>
<li>5x Deathwing: TH/SS Sergeant, Chainfist, Plasma Cannon</li>
</ul>
<li>Fast Attack:</li>
<ul>
<li>3x Ravenwing: Meltagun </li>
</ul>
<li>Heavy Support:</li>
<ul>
<li>Mortis Contemptor: 2TL Lascannons, Cyclone Missile </li>
</ul>
</ul>
I decided on the standard of fortitude instead of an apothecary because the feel no pain extends in a 12" radius instead of just affecting those in the squad, and it allows him to have a TH/SS. I also gave 4 in the command squad TH/SS to make the squad more resiliant. They will be sitting behind the main force giving FnP until it is time to get in combat when they will jump out and smash stuff! Belial will be attached to this squad to make them extra killy in combat and to take a few wounds from shooting attacks.<br />
The three Deathwing squads will make up the bulk of the force. The sergeants will all have TH/SS since I don't want them to have swords, and for challenges. The assault cannon and plasma cannons will be magnetized so I can change things up depending on what army I am facing (This list is built with DraigoWing in mind). The librarian will be in one of these squads using divination to boost firepower on the deathwing or the contemptor. I put a displacer field on him because the 3++ is nice and the special rules seemed like a good time (BAM! Teleported out of the way!).<br />
The ravenwing is mainly because I had 90 points left over so I thought it would be nice to have some fast melta in the army to disrupt the enemies tactics or do some tank hunting. <br />
Last but not least, the contemptor dread! I just really think these look cool (I hated them at first, but now I can't see why!) and have some awesome long range firepower to support the deathwing. I opted for the lascannons over the assault cannons because as I said before, I will likely be facing Draigowing so it will be nice to take some paladins down before they get into psycannon range. Also, If I'm going against another army, it will be nice to have something long range since Deathwing specialize in the <24" range.<br />
So what do you think? Do you see any glaring issues? Leave a comment below! And hopefully I will be posting soon on the progress with the models as well (If I have some homework free evenings. Grad school is super busy). I still don't have a contemptor, but I will proxy until I do. Thanks for reading!<br />

Here is an army list that I have been playing around with for a while now. It includes a main force of jump pack Blood Angels, with Dark Angel allies. This army is designed to be a fun, varied army with a bunch of different element and units that I really like. I'm not sure how competitive it is, but since I'm not out to win any tournaments that isn't a bit deal (although I sure do like to beat my brother's Grey Knights). Let me know if you have any suggestions or comments!<br />

Here in part 2 I have the warlord traits made especially for the Grey Knights. For those of you who missed <a href="http://40kangelsofdeath.blogspot.com/2013/04/custom-warlord-traits-part-1-blood.html">the Blood Angels'</a> warlord traits, here's a quick explanation of what this is. The new 6th edition codexes have interesting and fun warlord traits that are made to work well with the strategies of the army. But all the armies that still have pre-6th edition codexes have to use the main rulebook's warlord traits which more often than not are almost useless in your army (Master of offence for a gunline army, etc). So I decided to make up traits for the armies that haven't been updated yet for use in friendly games.<br />
So without any more rambling, here are the warlord traits for the army that I play against most often, my brother's Grey Knights...<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>Grey Knight's Warlord Traits:<br />
<ol>
<li>Your Warlord gains the Adamantium Will special rule.</li>
<li>The Warlord may re-roll Perils of the Warp results.</li>
<li>One Use Only: Declare your Warlord is using this ability at the start of one of your Shooting phases. For that phase, the Warlord and his unit, have the Skyfire special rule.</li>
<li>The Warlord's Melee weapon gain the Daemonbane special rule, and count as S+1 AP2 against enemy psykers and daemons.</li>
<li>Enemy units within 12" of the Warlord have a -1 penalty to their Leadership value (-2 for psychic tests).</li>
<li>The Warlord's attacks are Precision Shots or Precision Strikes on a 4+.</li>
</ol>
Let me know what you think. If there are any additions, or changes that you think would be better leave a comment! cpykehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15447360797850807908noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6208362756665014361.post-42884390991398759722013-04-22T18:28:00.000-07:002013-05-16T08:20:16.894-07:00Custom Warlord Traits Part 1: Blood Angels<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjd8al7USwXLt5zr3TrTZZ1L-IbIzc2u9GoGiwEC2BDQCqMMjLMo2FcprgOy5hFiHc4YViW6C9kR7f-_1ieVqZx__TmrlEfcBHdqFUuSZdWXEEPPluihxFwbRliF9MBaZv1S3hOGfo76721/s1600/BloodAngelsAssaultMarines.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="295" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjd8al7USwXLt5zr3TrTZZ1L-IbIzc2u9GoGiwEC2BDQCqMMjLMo2FcprgOy5hFiHc4YViW6C9kR7f-_1ieVqZx__TmrlEfcBHdqFUuSZdWXEEPPluihxFwbRliF9MBaZv1S3hOGfo76721/s320/BloodAngelsAssaultMarines.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I haven't really liked the warlord traits in the main rulebook. Your gunline army could just as easily get "Master of Offense" as your assault army could get "Master of Defense". Both are (mostly) useless to those armies. But now that we have a few 6th edition codexes, I am starting to see that the warlord traits are a very fun part of the game that really adds something new. The only problem is that most of the armies don't have a set of warlord traits tailored to their specific strategies like the Dark Angels, or the Tau do. And that is why I am making some myself.<br />
Below I have an initial draft of a set of Warlord traits that I've written up for the Blood Angels (since they're the main army that I play). Eventually I'd like to make a set for each of the armies that don't have their own to tide them over until their new codex comes out. Let me know what you think. Are there any of these that are just too over/underpowered? Any better ideas to replace one? Any tweaks to make the rule better? Obviously these would only be for friendly games, so if anyone tries these out in a game let me know how it worked, and if you have any ideas for an army that I haven't done yet let me know (and maybe leave a little explanation about why it would fit with that army too). Read on to see the traits!<br />
<a name='more'></a><b>Blood Angels Warlord Traits:</b><br />
<ol>
<li>Nominate up to D3 Infantry units in your army before deployment. Those units gain the Scouts special rule.</li>
<li>Models with the Red Thirst special rule succumb on a roll of a 2 or less.</li>
<li>Your Warlord, and the unit he joins during deployment, may choose to automatically arrive from reserves turn 1.</li>
<li>Your Warlord, and his unit, gain the Fleet special rule.</li>
<li>Your Warlord, and his unit, gain +1 initiative on the turn they assault.</li>
<li>Your Warlord, and his unit, have the Counter-attack special rule while they are within 3" of an objective.</li>
</ol>
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! I just stumbled upon an excellent set of warlord trait cards by <a href="http://musingsofawargamer.blogspot.com/">Eryx_UK</a>. He has a set made up for each of the new 6th edition codexes, the traits from the rulebook, and a set of cards for the warzone traits. I think this is an incredible idea, and I don't know why GW doesn't make a set of these themselves because I think they would sell. I have the links below to each of the different sets so go check them out!<br />

Just a quick post to show a few of the things I have been up to. For Christmas (I know, it was forever ago) my brother bought me a box of Space Wolves grey hunters, and a box of thunderwolf cavalry. I have been having too much fun converting these guys so I haven't even come close to painting them yet. I have really caught the converting bug. I'll be posting up many more photos of the things I'm working on starting with these. Enjoy...<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWvt0JgjdrzdkWW7TDXRzSuFmZ9EyEs0FrzYyCbxKsttFzIRriXmsuNm_uv5uoTv2jQSDOfW6nAFyjNA1Ix1V0-BJMIzViVTgjgnagybwg732hI1n7oA3lYSyAsgw2-ryZjVwWjAis1iE7/s1600/IMG_6434.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWvt0JgjdrzdkWW7TDXRzSuFmZ9EyEs0FrzYyCbxKsttFzIRriXmsuNm_uv5uoTv2jQSDOfW6nAFyjNA1Ix1V0-BJMIzViVTgjgnagybwg732hI1n7oA3lYSyAsgw2-ryZjVwWjAis1iE7/s320/IMG_6434.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I really like how unique the Space Wolves' thunder hammers are, but I wanted something even more unique. I thought it would be really cool for the leader of my thunderwolf cavalry to have a thunderhammer that he crafted himself out of a huge stone. I made it out of Super Skulpy by first forming a block like shape out of the skulpey that was a bit larger than I wanted the finished product to be. After it was baked, I used my knife to carve it down to the shape I wanted. I carved it to be a bit uneven, and rough around the edges so it would look like carved stone that has seen many decades of bashing. As you can see, I drilled a bit too far through the hand for pinning so I will have to touch that up with greenstuff.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgglY2QqDezA0gKp7rEORLIfFg-Rhu1PRQ8H1wOF79InF3qua6F-YVgVaq2EWhFZpY87Rg-Plj7SSlX3hI6HfKQpXC5z53tlJyjXUz1FAWrrhdgFukKPC8b8aNF0h_ON8ADe_gjcoBLo7c-/s1600/IMG_6438.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgglY2QqDezA0gKp7rEORLIfFg-Rhu1PRQ8H1wOF79InF3qua6F-YVgVaq2EWhFZpY87Rg-Plj7SSlX3hI6HfKQpXC5z53tlJyjXUz1FAWrrhdgFukKPC8b8aNF0h_ON8ADe_gjcoBLo7c-/s320/IMG_6438.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Here is a mostly assembled thunderwolf. I don't have the thunderhammer guy assembled because I'm going to try adding some extra decorations and other things to him.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjG261xAFtho70Zcvy_ODbzeuScWUhDQFFscTlUliCkcqXmDVWtTo3nlenWcIRrUi0wmlFAPBCSDnFEpWSJxz5hAuvB2fdE6xcq3Fi7wvEO65boCHVSAHoZCN2qEcam5wz7_wM2EIhN4SI0/s1600/IMG_6437.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjG261xAFtho70Zcvy_ODbzeuScWUhDQFFscTlUliCkcqXmDVWtTo3nlenWcIRrUi0wmlFAPBCSDnFEpWSJxz5hAuvB2fdE6xcq3Fi7wvEO65boCHVSAHoZCN2qEcam5wz7_wM2EIhN4SI0/s320/IMG_6437.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I'm also going to have to think up some awesome bases for these guys. Some sort of mountanous, snowy terrain with ancient runes carved in the rock.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0atppvzq_aF2u9nJlcBblUaAPAHxAW0BCnY2C0thu41uVNyegZkNqFumqfC9Lth_iq3BY46vm6lV7ehP0cO7RMl2jaKXs5-zS60cRPHN8BEoI3i97QLXeLtTvbx21_p2HouJIbSiLApuv/s1600/IMG_6443.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0atppvzq_aF2u9nJlcBblUaAPAHxAW0BCnY2C0thu41uVNyegZkNqFumqfC9Lth_iq3BY46vm6lV7ehP0cO7RMl2jaKXs5-zS60cRPHN8BEoI3i97QLXeLtTvbx21_p2HouJIbSiLApuv/s320/IMG_6443.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
And here are a few of the newest additions to my Angels of Retribution! These are the Sanguinary Priests/Apothecary/P***** (Deleted from Imperial Records). I made these guys from bits from the Dark Angels upgrade sprue which I bought with the GW gift card graciously given to me by HOTpanda over at <a href="http://thechaosmanifesto.blogspot.com/2012/11/saturday-shout-out-19-contest-for-chaos.html">The Chaos Manifesto</a>. I've always loved the robes and hoods on marines so I'm glad I finally get to try them out. And all of the other bits are going to make for many fun conversions! Thanks HOTpanda!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEit3Vwxs1Mc2V017vDYPy2YbGdeRqFXk5Vf6cCaxUNnSCS5a51q4vi3IxtU_E-NHIWm6daN_Vfzx9a9nQKeX3MAc0i_YCDyVx_AGow-evJUbj_9tSkA5YoySUnB5o359dLhLACZwBFDQ2je/s1600/IMG_6440.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="179" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEit3Vwxs1Mc2V017vDYPy2YbGdeRqFXk5Vf6cCaxUNnSCS5a51q4vi3IxtU_E-NHIWm6daN_Vfzx9a9nQKeX3MAc0i_YCDyVx_AGow-evJUbj_9tSkA5YoySUnB5o359dLhLACZwBFDQ2je/s320/IMG_6440.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Here's another (very) WIP shot of this apothecary. I still haven't decided what I'm going to do with his right arm. (I'm thinking bolt pistol for one guy, and maybe a chainsword or axe on another). Also, I can't really glue any more together until I get to painting since the arm and jump pack cover up too much detail that I wouldn't be able to get to like the vials on his belt.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNkGQmUouvGSpWTmXfpl5NblKLDwCC6X0e5lgXMkQtEwuDFXoVW2XCs_jA7_5voI5gP99FsBkbDZ7vdOTQOnn8-RP_PDu-TESKLzkSaUc9sUrTqV2bbmByprH3l12fpXcehjiNXxAAzMta/s1600/IMG_6442.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNkGQmUouvGSpWTmXfpl5NblKLDwCC6X0e5lgXMkQtEwuDFXoVW2XCs_jA7_5voI5gP99FsBkbDZ7vdOTQOnn8-RP_PDu-TESKLzkSaUc9sUrTqV2bbmByprH3l12fpXcehjiNXxAAzMta/s320/IMG_6442.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
And here's one more photo of a slightly different angle of the other guy. I like the two different styles of jump pack. It gives them each a bit of individuality. Also this guy doesn't have a hood since the intake to the jump pack is right behind the head.<br />
Well, that is it for now. I have quite a bit more that I've done over the past few months that I haven't posted so I'll try to do some more updates. Thanks for reading, and thanks again HOTpanda!<br />

Hi everyone! It has been quite a while. I'm just about to go into my finals week (I blame school for my lack of posting) so hopefully I'll find some time to update the blog with what I've been doing over the past month. Today I'm just going to give you all some examples of how I use photoshop to help decide what type of color schemes, or even conversions would look good on particular models. More below...<br />
<a name='more'></a> The Land Raider above was a fun one to make. I seriously doubt that I will ever build this, but
it was just a fun Idea for a Baal pattern Land Raider for an apocalypse
game. 2 flamestorm cannon sponsons, and an Inferno cannon turret (The one with "torrent" from
codex IG) on the top. maybe even trade that storm bolter for a heavy
flamer if you really want to go over the top. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJXYLryGeeFtKYBfZATZGgF3xxNFsM8JHQiQbHQmOZquJpsiJPn1cMet4p75SY3psgF_8E2VLgH7bRDqTE7sb8bKfHdCQ9kqn-rBBdtrTsAFD9zMK-l5jQUcJ9GhuDQ3BOrkWtkHFB2vVI/s1600/land+raider+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJXYLryGeeFtKYBfZATZGgF3xxNFsM8JHQiQbHQmOZquJpsiJPn1cMet4p75SY3psgF_8E2VLgH7bRDqTE7sb8bKfHdCQ9kqn-rBBdtrTsAFD9zMK-l5jQUcJ9GhuDQ3BOrkWtkHFB2vVI/s320/land+raider+4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
This picture was one of the first I did for my land raider. I
just found a suitable image on google and changed the colors here and
there until I found a scheme I liked. Even if you have just a little
photoshop experience this can work since it is just a quick and dirty
type thing, and it doesn't have to look super pretty, it just has to
give you an idea of what it will be like.<br />

Another fun Idea for a conversion. Replacing the terminator chaplain's crozius arcanum with the apothecary's arm from the new Deathwing box (which I really want to get someday). This was a very easy photoshop job since the GW photos were from the exact same angle, so everything lined up nicely. If/when I actually do this conversion I will also switch his storm bolter for a power axe also.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijbAw6kxEOUV2hhsD9JfvxdENINGEg3vz-tAUv-eQ3L2UbAKaizZnb_4ZVA6fJY4C_iYyELg2C6X5iE3cdJGVZmt6q_fhj_Ejdrlcsecvtbq2F-dW9XbgMvlV6YZuakI8H5oEkfg3sjLYc/s1600/WBtest3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijbAw6kxEOUV2hhsD9JfvxdENINGEg3vz-tAUv-eQ3L2UbAKaizZnb_4ZVA6fJY4C_iYyELg2C6X5iE3cdJGVZmt6q_fhj_Ejdrlcsecvtbq2F-dW9XbgMvlV6YZuakI8H5oEkfg3sjLYc/s1600/WBtest3.jpg" /></a></div>
And to finish it off, we have some photoshop jobs I did to try to decide on a paint scheme for my Chaos marines (spoiler alert, I still haven't decided, but I'm leaning toward the red).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrQyqBfk-6IMFYTLEXSaK9jE-YsF5vUigNsnlglwnAa3cHh1ypBpSIckhA5yMrZM3GAQaXAMLCKl1VydH-9K-rfX2lqrotLyXcQDdjLzHBZCzYZNhMpBvq6a-sZXOLmnajAP8561RM3dVl/s1600/WBtest1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrQyqBfk-6IMFYTLEXSaK9jE-YsF5vUigNsnlglwnAa3cHh1ypBpSIckhA5yMrZM3GAQaXAMLCKl1VydH-9K-rfX2lqrotLyXcQDdjLzHBZCzYZNhMpBvq6a-sZXOLmnajAP8561RM3dVl/s1600/WBtest1.jpg" /></a></div>
Well that's it for now. Any of you with the photoshop skills already, you should definitely give this a try. It is much nicer to realize that you don't like a color scheme on photoshop than to spend hours on painting a model only to have to strip it and start over. And for those of you who don't know your way around photoshop, I will probably be making a tutorial on how I do this. It really isn't all that hard to do, and doesn't take much time either. <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I figured that It might be time for another MathHammer since I haven't done any painting to put up on the blog. Today I'm going to be looking at the 6th edition assault ranges. More below...<br />
<a name='more'></a> First off, I have a simple table that shows the probability of making it into assault at certain distances.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZapBlDBytfxaHlA30DN8D0r3hDL8ddOdVxr7qfYssl_WnpOwV5zZUsKTY0M-iXo6V_QZBs6KYGFyqKWFi5j-tftDqBNLnM9z7FSItG7P4Ok13KT5Agh0xWdmreASa3ZZJ2OESK5ijbsNw/s1600/AssaultRange.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZapBlDBytfxaHlA30DN8D0r3hDL8ddOdVxr7qfYssl_WnpOwV5zZUsKTY0M-iXo6V_QZBs6KYGFyqKWFi5j-tftDqBNLnM9z7FSItG7P4Ok13KT5Agh0xWdmreASa3ZZJ2OESK5ijbsNw/s1600/AssaultRange.JPG" /></a></div>
The first column is the 2D6 result that you need to make it into assault. the second is the percent chance that you have of making that roll, and the last is the chance of making that roll if you are using a jump pack to re-roll both the dice if you fall short the first time. From this we can see that your chances of making it into assault really start to drop off for most units after about 5 or 6 inches. Jump units don't start to really see a drop in their chances until about 7 to 8 inches.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ6oTJX5bHgN8h0ISyJqQnTaHJYIWyzL0mELXRcfnCt182536IX7jTtCpEMC0ILYAYGwVxyjSOANiTW-L4oaqFzQ0K0hHChqdpFkT55xT9_R3n797UCYT-0tH_2XxI_-GxDaIMD2QtqRIa/s1600/Assault+Range+3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="193" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ6oTJX5bHgN8h0ISyJqQnTaHJYIWyzL0mELXRcfnCt182536IX7jTtCpEMC0ILYAYGwVxyjSOANiTW-L4oaqFzQ0K0hHChqdpFkT55xT9_R3n797UCYT-0tH_2XxI_-GxDaIMD2QtqRIa/s320/Assault+Range+3.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
This graph shows the same thing in a more visual way. You can see that the jump pack unit's chances staay above 90% for much longer than the normal units. So i got to thinking, would it be better for me to move my assault marines 6" in the movement phase, and re-roll the dice for assault range, or move 12" in the movement phase and roll assault distance normally?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX0UZj_LiXllmtu4kIqM8qBidZfVWvdMoAyImGrLMfCRj5dGjQBU2byv1A9mOT5p7elrEYU4kgFX-s0AwOg5Nnwu-iInytd3TUdmCWM-RCFAqm0q3vNqxA2wT0ovjZwNUSFuCZ6bXEvm3g/s1600/Assault+Range+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX0UZj_LiXllmtu4kIqM8qBidZfVWvdMoAyImGrLMfCRj5dGjQBU2byv1A9mOT5p7elrEYU4kgFX-s0AwOg5Nnwu-iInytd3TUdmCWM-RCFAqm0q3vNqxA2wT0ovjZwNUSFuCZ6bXEvm3g/s1600/Assault+Range+2.JPG" /></a></div>
This table answers that question pretty well. If you use your jump pack in the movement phase (normal), then you have an 80%(ish) chance of making an assault that is 17 inches away, but if you use your jump pack in the assault phase, you will have an 80% chance of making it 13 inches into an assault. So if you want to increase your chances of getting into an assault, you should use your jump pack in the movement phase, but you will be giving up your hammer of wrath attacks. So it's a trade off. If you are close enough, I would use the jump pack in the assault and get hammer of wrath, but if you're farther away, or just really need to get into assault (if they have a bunch of big guns about to blow you away) then go with the jump pack in the movement phase.<br />
So the last bit I have here is for units with the "fleet" special rule, and is actually from <a href="http://www.40kmath.com/blog/average-charge-ranges-and-rerolls/9">40kmath.com</a>. This is a great article, and this guy did some serious number crunching to figure this out so thank you to him!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6iNHLPP98YEHBuk0qesq5JYBq9p-MTV-Qao0Oi8lrQJvzkX6qQC5gn3G6mXi1M2O-HhbY-zIPiz_fgf5DaxLbgRLI_7rHyj6IaXVij4cyLMfvKyBj8RfmtvZSCeew2lNemqvcXjGYszN8/s1600/40kmath.com+01.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="338" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6iNHLPP98YEHBuk0qesq5JYBq9p-MTV-Qao0Oi8lrQJvzkX6qQC5gn3G6mXi1M2O-HhbY-zIPiz_fgf5DaxLbgRLI_7rHyj6IaXVij4cyLMfvKyBj8RfmtvZSCeew2lNemqvcXjGYszN8/s400/40kmath.com+01.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
So let me explain this table first. Lets say that we are 8 inches away from the unit you are trying to assault. Normally we would have a 42% chance to make the assault, but since we have fleet our chances are much better. First, we find the row with the roll we need (in this case 8) and follow that row to the right until we reach the highlighted box. Once we get there we look at the column that box is in. For a roll of 8 we find ourselves in column "RR 3-G8". The column title tells us that we need to re-roll everything 3 or less and we will maximize our chances of getting into the assault (head on over to his site for a more in depth explanation).<br />
Based on this chart, rolling everything that is 3 or less (assuming you didn't make the roll you need) will generally get you the best chance of making the assault. The only exceptions are when you need to assault less than 5 inches, or more than 10 inches. <br />
For those of you who use units with the fleet rule, this chart will be very nice to have with you (The guy who made it has a cheat sheet <a href="http://www.40kmath.com/blog/average-charge-ranges-and-rerolls/9">here</a> that you can print out and take to your games). He also has another chart that shows the same thing for moving through difficult terrain. <br />
Well i hope that someone out there found this useful/interesting. Hopefully I can get some modeling/painting time in here soon. School is kinda killing my time right now though (only one more year until I'm done with school forever!) Thanks for reading!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
It's been quite a while since my last post, so I figured I'd just do an update of what I'm working on right now. I don't have much to show as far as finished models, but that doesn't mean I haven't been working this month. I'm putting together the box of Thunderwolf Cavalry and Grey Hunters that my brother got me for Christmas, and I've also been building some more of my Blood Angels troops. And I've been working on something else to add to my skills... 3d printing!!! More below...<br />
<a name='more'></a> So 3d printing. It's pretty much the coolest thing ever. You make a 3d model, then upload it to a <a href="http://www.shapeways.com/">Shapeways</a> (an online 3d printing company), and then you get that object in the mail a few days later. The fact that they charge by the square centimeter means that it isn't even all that expensive at the scale of 40k. I used to be pretty decent at 3d modeling, and I'm now relearning everything in <a href="http://www.blender.org/">Blender</a>, a free 3d program that is incredibly powerful. They photo above is a model done by <a href="http://dynath.blogspot.com/2012/11/vehicle-update-11-11-12.html">Dynath</a> who makes a whole bunch of shoulder pads with icons, vehicles, weapons, and a bunch of other stuff. I'm hoping to try out 3d printing by making some autocannon dreadnought arms for my brother's Grey Knight army, and then maybe some scopes for sniper scouts, missile launchers, or anything else that seems worthwhile. As I print things out, I'll post reviews of Shapeways' service, and the quality of the prints, as well as a tutorial on how to make the bit with blender. I'm really excited to get this going, and to get to printing!<br />
Recently I realized that I've been in this hobby for quite some time, but I still don't have a finished army! I decided that I need to get organized and get myself an army fully painted so i don't have to play with unfinished models and stand ins. To do this, I made a nifty little progress chart so i can see at a glance what I have left to finish.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqSKrkyJnYShwGOu22y3057r3IRP3yvlO8LOSCi2mYD-3Gh5NYagZJ9UwWzNRbD80I6dSIzJi7IflSPyFH5AU7-Rmk0I0Wcf18wesE0xZbNIBs27QxYo4w8sAuQBW-z_Pgvhhc17ljjIm3/s1600/BA+Army+Progress.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="157" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqSKrkyJnYShwGOu22y3057r3IRP3yvlO8LOSCi2mYD-3Gh5NYagZJ9UwWzNRbD80I6dSIzJi7IflSPyFH5AU7-Rmk0I0Wcf18wesE0xZbNIBs27QxYo4w8sAuQBW-z_Pgvhhc17ljjIm3/s400/BA+Army+Progress.PNG" width="400" /></a></div>
So I made up a list that seemed like it would be fun to play, and also included mostly models that I already own. Disclaimer: This may not be the most competitive list in the world, but it wasn't really designed to me. Since I only play friendly games I'm looking for a fun list more than squeezing out the most power for the points.<br />
As you can see from the picture above, I only have one finished model in this list; the attack bike with multi-melta. So i have some work ahead of me. Hopefully I'll get some good hobby time in, so I can start giving you all some good WIPs and finished models!<br />
So a little about this list. The <a href="http://40kangelsofdeath.blogspot.com/2013/01/wip-blood-angels-librarian.html#more">Librarian</a> is coming along nicely, with a cool force halberd/bolter combo, some books, and other librarian nonsense. I have two assault squads that are just about ready to get some paint, but I'll have to pick up another box of them before the army is done. I have five bolter scouts who I will be converting to snipers (stalker bolter style). The assault terminators are also very close to getting some paint. As for the furioso, I don't have any arms since I got the torso off of ebay. So I may be trying out some 3D printing (more on that later) for those. I just got two sets of apothecary bits and the Dark Angels chapter upgrade frame which I am using for the Sanguinary Priests. They both have robes which makes them stand out from the rest of the troops a bit. For the bike squad, I am using the Dark Vengeance bikes along with my <a href="http://40kangelsofdeath.blogspot.com/2012/10/space-marine-attack-bike.html">Attack Bike</a>. The biker with the plasma gun will get a shiny new meltagun instead. For the Land Raider, I'm converting the pintle mounted storm bolter into a multi-melta from a devastator. And lastly, the drop pod. My brother built a Forge World style dreadnought drop pod out of plasticard and plexiglass (I'll have a post about this when I start working on it more). It looks really nice so far, but it still needs a few more details to make it really look good.<br />
So there are the Blood Angels! I'm hoping to have them done by the end of the year (I know, I'm slow). And a fun fact about this army. Seven melta weapons! Five meltaguns and two multi meltas. I love meltaguns. I know that they're not needed as much in 6th, but I just really love the look and idea of them (melting through anything with insane heat beams!) and they actually come in handy with their S8 being able to instakill marines, and easily hurt anything. And the 12" range isn't a problem with the speed of this army. <br />

Next up is the Space Wolves. I'm not going to say as much about these guys because I don't have much for them yet (One box of grey hunters, and one box of thunderwolf cavalry). There is a very good chance that this list will be changing since I've only played one game with them so far, but I thought that I should just put something down on paper (or excel in this case). I'm really enjoying/looking forward to all the conversion possibilities with this army. I've been watching the progress in <a href="http://pingos-projects.blogspot.com/">Pingo's</a> excellent Space Wolf army which is really inspiring me to do a bunch of conversions.<br />
Well that's what I've been up to, hopefully I can start making more hobby time in February than I had in January so I can get some things done. Thanks for reading!<br />

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Hey everyone! So I am working on my custom Blood Angels jump pack librarian today. Right now he is in the early stages of construction, but I think it's looking pretty cool so far. Read on for some more info...</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3PBvBEi2pJUz21LwuWEg3AXMml7JfScyo6dqLwRG7axzRGwmZhUKDRml1vvsCMxFCA_hr6oMq7dBTmuGVvLMx0FyN0Y9N9QiLvruU0tApuIZD7vF7s03XkzLYEBE6wkRSYBbEDGso7_ip/s1600/IMG_6158.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3PBvBEi2pJUz21LwuWEg3AXMml7JfScyo6dqLwRG7axzRGwmZhUKDRml1vvsCMxFCA_hr6oMq7dBTmuGVvLMx0FyN0Y9N9QiLvruU0tApuIZD7vF7s03XkzLYEBE6wkRSYBbEDGso7_ip/s320/IMG_6158.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
The biggest change so far was the halberd. I used a Grey Knight halberd as the base of the weapon, but there was just one problem. It looked too much like a Grey Knight halberd. So I declared artistic license and rigged it up with a bolter! Rules wise this will just count as his bolt pistol (I figured he just uses it to spray some bolts into the enemy as he charges in, and not accurate fire like a normal boltgun, so the bolt pistol rules seem to fit). <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_IGIfhZcHeLVuPJPGeq7wtr01hnMoSlwcu7IYVJzYeD9ldfqOePEkZQq7TDcbrxyJPG4wNd1Ure7tqBoUDaYzwHphmbBPMHO2KzDyCZJRTKGSCRCmXHCwtcn8cqP2COvGfP0cLiPv4J2v/s1600/IMG_6161.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_IGIfhZcHeLVuPJPGeq7wtr01hnMoSlwcu7IYVJzYeD9ldfqOePEkZQq7TDcbrxyJPG4wNd1Ure7tqBoUDaYzwHphmbBPMHO2KzDyCZJRTKGSCRCmXHCwtcn8cqP2COvGfP0cLiPv4J2v/s320/IMG_6161.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I also have a nice book strapped to his right leg (he is a librarian after all), and his left shoulderpad will be another Grey Knight bit with an open book and a bunch of purity seals. Next, I'm planning on making some cables running down the sides of his breastplate <a href="http://fromthewarp.blogspot.com/2011/01/modeling-power-cables.html">From The Warp</a> style and a psychic hood.<br />
There is one problem with the hood though. If I make a normal hood, the jump pack intake will be covered. I was thinking about having one that comes up on either side of the head, but I'm not sure. If you have any ideas on how to do it let me know!cpykehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15447360797850807908noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6208362756665014361.post-8661448244161580352013-01-06T08:25:00.000-08:002013-01-06T08:25:08.395-08:00MathHammer Part 5: Thunderwolf Cavalry<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Well I'm back with another MathHammer article! I was putting together my new set of Thunderwolf cavalry, and i was wondering which would be the best special weapon for the pack to take. A power fist is an appealing choice with 4 S10 attacks, but I really think that the Space Wolves look much better with an axe (which also gains an extra attack). So, which is the best weapon? Read on to find out!<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEim9jpI-q7X3xf-D1JcEGyX8Bpd2msZY5yYDegwepoCRkkwmOSbEZfZFY3HTHSldEs4zUkyiYHCAzdiWvpc3xTC9iqaraJCqO1elgDkpBgjzhbVImKTJ80QFGwbR2VZs869OQNCzOP0AiKf/s1600/Thunderwolves.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="131" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEim9jpI-q7X3xf-D1JcEGyX8Bpd2msZY5yYDegwepoCRkkwmOSbEZfZFY3HTHSldEs4zUkyiYHCAzdiWvpc3xTC9iqaraJCqO1elgDkpBgjzhbVImKTJ80QFGwbR2VZs869OQNCzOP0AiKf/s400/Thunderwolves.PNG" width="400" /></a></div>
This table shows a summary of the expected number of wounds caused by each weapon against different enemies. The 4+ represents an IG stormtrooper (WS/T 3), and the 3+ is a Space marine. I was pretty surprised that the frost axe actually comes out on top in every category due to their high strength, low AP, and extra attack (it like having 5 plasma gun attacks in close combat!). This would obviously make me lean toward the frost axe, however, this is just raw MathHammer, and there are a few other things to consider.<br />
First, the power fist and the axes strike at initiative one. This is an important consideration depending on what initiative the enemy is, and their ability to kill the Thunderwolves before they strike. Another thing to consider is that the power fist is strength 10 which is awesome! This allows you to insta-kill anything up to T5 and makes it auto-penetrate most vehicles. However, against single wound models with low toughness (which is what they will be facing most of the time) the frost axe is better due to it's extra attack.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqD6Gu8XaKL5N39x60OpL4i5Ph6chFMPIuy1Oa4nleYauZ3bIGa4JgwfCuCZIEGjjIuA4qdlsOMNIK-vs4-Y525Z9_7jKfbbNU9L5C7QkNnN5XwGhhfU86pSVFocouOwg2-a_u7iq-h6cA/s1600/Thunderwolf-SS.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="133" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqD6Gu8XaKL5N39x60OpL4i5Ph6chFMPIuy1Oa4nleYauZ3bIGa4JgwfCuCZIEGjjIuA4qdlsOMNIK-vs4-Y525Z9_7jKfbbNU9L5C7QkNnN5XwGhhfU86pSVFocouOwg2-a_u7iq-h6cA/s400/Thunderwolf-SS.PNG" width="400" /></a></div>
Now the calcuations in the first table don't apply if the thunderwolf has a storm shield, and loses it's extra attack. The table above shows what would change if it had a storm shield. The power fist comes up on top for anything with 2+ armour and high toughness enemies, and the wolf claw is best for anything with a 3+ save of worse.<br />
So this should help you to decide on what weapons to use. But it will come down to how you plan on using them (and also the points cost). Since I wouldn't suggest charging a Dreadknight or a squad of terminators with these guys, AP2 may not be that important. Personally I will give my thunderwolf a frost axe since I think it is the coolest, but if I give him a storm shield, maybe I'll replace it with a power fist (or thunder hammer for the concussive rule).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghcJetFMWALgddBGU5fRSP_q1EFeUNka-Ld5OIfiY-XvMpheN8_2_W0O4_2H2d1l1aeHkRVUH8alX1j_AKdO1TvicZHAceOn41o2fEThJaSl0-6wb5LRTDOCe_Ns3wZ7hwsRdsNbQtY-79/s1600/Wolf+Guard.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="133" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghcJetFMWALgddBGU5fRSP_q1EFeUNka-Ld5OIfiY-XvMpheN8_2_W0O4_2H2d1l1aeHkRVUH8alX1j_AKdO1TvicZHAceOn41o2fEThJaSl0-6wb5LRTDOCe_Ns3wZ7hwsRdsNbQtY-79/s400/Wolf+Guard.PNG" width="400" /></a></div>
And as an added bonus, here are the calculations as they apply to a wolf guard (Remember that if you give them a storm shield, or terminator armour, they lose their extra attack with some of the weapons).<br />
So there you have it! Hope this was helpful to someone out there. I am really liking the 6th edition close combat AP. It really makes things more interesting, but it makes the choices a little less straightforward. Well I'm going to get back to putting my space wolves together. Thanks for reading!cpykehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15447360797850807908noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6208362756665014361.post-91033134091750835752013-01-02T15:15:00.000-08:002013-01-02T15:15:36.578-08:002013 Hobby Resolution and 2012 Recap.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
2012 has a big year for me. I married my beautiful wife, graduated college, started my masters degree. And on the hobby side of things, I started this blog three months ago with my tutorial on painting an <a href="http://40kangelsofdeath.blogspot.com/2012/10/space-marine-captain-wip.html">Assault on Black Reach Captain</a> for my Blood Angels army. The blog has recieved 4748 views with 25 posts, and 26 followers so far! It has had a much better reception than i was expecting, which has been great! <br />
<a name='more'></a> I haven't completed many models in the last three months, mainly due to school. This quarter, I'm going to work on making some time for painting so I can make some progress. But here is what I have done:<br />

Painted my first Chaos model, and entered it in the Standard Template Construct's <a href="http://www.standardtemplateconstruct.net/2012/12/champions-of-chaos-judgement.html">painting/converting competition</a> which was my first miniature competition ever! I didn't win, but it was great fun. </div>

<li><b>Build a KV-2 diorama.</b></li>
<ul>
<li>My dad surprised me this Christmas with a 1/32 scale KV-2 model! For those of you who aren't history buffs, or haven't played World of Tanks, the KV-2 is a Soviet tank from WWII. It's big, slow, and ugly, but it had armour that was almost impenetrable in it's time, and a huge 152mm gun (nicknamed the derp in WoT). It should be a pretty fun model to make, and a nice change from all the 40k models I do. I'm planning to make a small diorama (probably just a snowy road) to display it on.</li>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZfbfhNjLkc_jya8yoCIR0PmT7w2Whovd_NHveFc6pGjKCco9Q5P2L5aRtsxqOhnNpSCgRChVE42vZKZa1Y2W0HG1AMPbgB9RVtkJcOLuqsNb9lpx5L5CSX8gkf00OD8UIKPgysp4mAn8u/s1600/IMG_6138.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZfbfhNjLkc_jya8yoCIR0PmT7w2Whovd_NHveFc6pGjKCco9Q5P2L5aRtsxqOhnNpSCgRChVE42vZKZa1Y2W0HG1AMPbgB9RVtkJcOLuqsNb9lpx5L5CSX8gkf00OD8UIKPgysp4mAn8u/s320/IMG_6138.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
So I have an Assault on Black Reach dreadnought, but I've always used the multi-melta arm as a plasma cannon stand in. Since I got the dark vengeance set, I realized that I have one more plasma cannon than I need, so I figured it was time to make a real plasma cannon. There is a great tutorial that gave me the idea to do this over on <a href="http://therollinwaaagh.blogspot.com/2009/01/making-dreadnought-plasma-cannon.html">Da Rollin Waaagh!</a>. I'll give a quick rundown of what I did, but if you want a more in depth tutorial, head over to his post. More below...<br />
<a name='more'></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnVsPDdDH5TP4svDcEGPtnG74Fy7LE3mZKMKFldFxyDnmnaYyDVKtcbNWFiY7ZCUJus8XzDGDkPmAW1T5EhsaQZLbcD9dfYmzI6x5327kxxwgArOA21uaW5KI7QR1wHJWeq8yi1F7TOb6K/s1600/IMG_6135.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnVsPDdDH5TP4svDcEGPtnG74Fy7LE3mZKMKFldFxyDnmnaYyDVKtcbNWFiY7ZCUJus8XzDGDkPmAW1T5EhsaQZLbcD9dfYmzI6x5327kxxwgArOA21uaW5KI7QR1wHJWeq8yi1F7TOb6K/s320/IMG_6135.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I started out with my old dreadnought multi-melta, and a devastator plasma cannon. I probably should have stripped the paint from the pieces first, but I was lazy so I didn't.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj72iiapREw7TweZL6mYnIutnzV7_drqJ3he8lxDWKKIQxYhvNQCoOdgvgeDSj-R0pHN5WW0WFve0SdUPe0uzurnfydrD-WdEq_VGbexpRlTMeuCeIZVq27X9k5nHrmDg2XNM9YT-CcuJ8f/s1600/IMG_6136.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj72iiapREw7TweZL6mYnIutnzV7_drqJ3he8lxDWKKIQxYhvNQCoOdgvgeDSj-R0pHN5WW0WFve0SdUPe0uzurnfydrD-WdEq_VGbexpRlTMeuCeIZVq27X9k5nHrmDg2XNM9YT-CcuJ8f/s320/IMG_6136.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I cut the tubes and gun barrel from the multi-melta with a razor saw, and also cut the arm from the plasma cannon. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWIbq_UUnBaqLj2QpZLsIfnYX6ijt9WYNtFizhw0-_VdCJ6QjyCHc6Q_hH2dA0ya7PG7alWoU0furmc7TglNSml1rys7I881PhRRK81E2sR7rD4GPRRF6KWxXJdFum_5WJxje-39eBj9zz/s1600/IMG_6137.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWIbq_UUnBaqLj2QpZLsIfnYX6ijt9WYNtFizhw0-_VdCJ6QjyCHc6Q_hH2dA0ya7PG7alWoU0furmc7TglNSml1rys7I881PhRRK81E2sR7rD4GPRRF6KWxXJdFum_5WJxje-39eBj9zz/s320/IMG_6137.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I carved the two pieces to fit each other as best as I could using the razor saw and a hobby knife.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZfbfhNjLkc_jya8yoCIR0PmT7w2Whovd_NHveFc6pGjKCco9Q5P2L5aRtsxqOhnNpSCgRChVE42vZKZa1Y2W0HG1AMPbgB9RVtkJcOLuqsNb9lpx5L5CSX8gkf00OD8UIKPgysp4mAn8u/s1600/IMG_6138.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZfbfhNjLkc_jya8yoCIR0PmT7w2Whovd_NHveFc6pGjKCco9Q5P2L5aRtsxqOhnNpSCgRChVE42vZKZa1Y2W0HG1AMPbgB9RVtkJcOLuqsNb9lpx5L5CSX8gkf00OD8UIKPgysp4mAn8u/s320/IMG_6138.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Once the fit was acceptable, I glued the pieces together, and used some greenstuff to fill the gaps. I'm still new at the greenstuff, so it's not great, but any noticeable imperfections will be shaved down once the greenstuff dries. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOccLkpu1Zl9VQUac54ram6nIbm-mt4GnqPAl8FsUCQqc_vz5VeFgJ4CfcmQnc0OieS5ASAQlK6RBPhhqj6AQPORXaAvSaXVhGs_WZ8B-AywgIxWEE7r-xCQHnIcIhZe39_oiQWrAfR7xF/s1600/IMG_6139.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOccLkpu1Zl9VQUac54ram6nIbm-mt4GnqPAl8FsUCQqc_vz5VeFgJ4CfcmQnc0OieS5ASAQlK6RBPhhqj6AQPORXaAvSaXVhGs_WZ8B-AywgIxWEE7r-xCQHnIcIhZe39_oiQWrAfR7xF/s320/IMG_6139.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
And that's it! A very fast and easy conversion. Much better than spending about $15 for the Forge World version, and much more useful than the multi-melta as well!<br />
Hope this was useful for someone out there. Leave me a comment with any questions or criticisms (of the constructive variety preferably). Or, just say why the plasma cannon is so much better than the multi-melta so I can be even happier about making the change. And in other news, I have finally finished my first quarter of grad school, so you should be seeing some more models painted/converted since I'm off for a few weeks! cpykehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15447360797850807908noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6208362756665014361.post-87454610252433299372012-12-11T12:09:00.001-08:002012-12-11T12:09:41.821-08:00Don't panic! For those of you who saw my previous post on the possible GW price increases, I was indeed looking at the Australian site (the page to choose which country never came up, so I just assumed I was in the right place). So there was no price increase. And I am VERY happy that a Librarian doesn't cost more than a whole 10 man squad of tacticals! So I can still start my new Space Wolves army!<br />
Sorry if I caused anyone else to be as depressed as I was. It was all a misunderstanding. You can go about your business. I finished painting my first ever Chaos model that I'm entering in the <a href="http://www.standardtemplateconstruct.net/2012/11/champions-of-chaos-contest-reminder.html">Standard Template Construct's</a> painting/conversion contest. There's still a bit of time left so go check it out, and be sure to head over and vote once they put up the entries. As for my entry, I had a great time painting and converting this guy and am very happy with the way he turned out. More photos below...<br />

I tried quite a few things that I've never done before. Since I've only painted loyalists I never had any reason to paint rust, so I went all out on this guy. I also just got a pot of Tamiya clear red in the mail and used it to make some great looking blood dripping off his sword. I love this stuff. I plan on using it often on future chaos models.<br />

I did something completely new for his base. I used sculpey which I pressed a rock into to make great realistic rock texture and carved some runes into the ground. <span id="goog_842300783"></span><span id="goog_842300784"></span><br />

And last but not least, I did my very first greenstuff work. It's the little skull on his hat. It's not much, but a nice way to get used to greenstuff. I really like it and I plan to do much more greenstuff work in the future.<br />

I was able to make some time to work on painting my first ever chaos model! He still has a lot of work until he's finished, but should be done in time to enter it in the painting/converting competition being run over at <a href="http://www.standardtemplateconstruct.net/2012/11/champions-of-chaos-contest-reminder.html">Standard Template Construct</a> right now with two $50 gift cards to <a href="http://www.secretweaponminiatures.com/">Secret Weapon Miniatures</a> as the prize! I know it's late notice, but if anyone is painting up a non-vehicle chaos model, you should enter too. There is also another competition going on at <a href="http://thechaosmanifesto.blogspot.ca/2012/11/saturday-shout-out-19-contest-for-chaos.html">the Chaos Manifesto</a> which is giving out gift cards to Games Workshop based on how many people join up. So go check out the competitions and <b>win some stuff!</b><br />
